Patient Manager - Case Study
The issues
The Neurosurgical theatre and Day Surgery Unit departments within Addenbrooke’s were using a combination of diaries and whiteboards to schedule admissions. Each department manages admissions across 4 theatres, with 2 off-site, at Ely where staff now have an immediate view of the schedule.
Manually trying to allocate patients to theatre time and distributing printed lists of theatre schedules was labour intensive and time consuming and often resulted in under utilised theatre time.
The solution
The implementation of an affordable process management software application, Theatre Scheduler from Sarand Business Software, to replace manual procedures.
The benefits
- Easy to use.
- Configured to follow existing procedures.
- Minimal staff training required.
- Networked.
- Better management of existing resources.
- Simplifies the task of identifying each consultant’s spare theatre time, saving a significant amount of effort in the allocation of patients.
- Enables schedules to be viewed from any workstation, reducing the need to distribute printed listings and helping to reduce unutilised theatre time.
Improved performance indicators
- Reduced waiting lists
- Reduced costs
- Automated performance statistics
The final word…
"We can see at a glance what is scheduled, which means we can ensure theatres are booked to their full potential. If we get a cancellation, we can just slot another one in easily.
This means that waiting lists are reduced and we are more cost effective."
