WinSingad analyses sound information from input devices such as a microphone connected to your computer and presents a variety of views onto the resulting data (frequency, spectrogram, spectrum etc). Recorded sessions can be saved to standard wave files and reloaded at a later date for further analysis.

The product has evolved over several years incorporating analysis techniques from a series of projects and has most recently been used to assess the viability of using such technology in the context of professional singing lessons.

More background information can be viewed at the University of York pages about the 'Singing Assessment and Development (SINGAD)' research projects.

WinSingad at the Faraday Lectures 2004

The 2004 Faraday lectures are presented by young engineers, and are designed as an interactive presentation for students aged 14-16. Music unites people around the world, with technology at the centre of this universal language. The IEE's 2004 Faraday lecture was 'SoundFX' hosted by York University, and demonstrated the link between music and technology.
The WinSingad application was used to demonstrate the way that sound waves are interpreted, analysed and recorded using a variety of computing techniques. The practical demonstrations were carried out with the help of a four-piece band, state-of-the-art recording equipment and an audience of extremely enthusiastic young students.
